History

One of the oldest continuously operating airports in the western US, opened 1928 as Sky Harbor and acquired by the City of Phoenix in 1935. Southwest Airlines runs its second-largest operation here after Las Vegas; American Airlines maintains a hub inherited from the US Airways merger. Phoenix is unusual among large US airports in observing year-round Mountain Standard Time without daylight saving (Arizona's longstanding policy).

About this profile

Reference data (codes, coordinates, elevation, runways, owner, opening date) is curated from each airport's official authority page, the FAA's airport reference system for US airports, NAV CANADA and Transport Canada for Canadian airports, and AFAC and the operating concessionaire for Mexican airports. Latest passenger figures are CY 2023 totals where confidently sourced.

Live METAR and TAF are fetched from NOAA's Aviation Weather Center on each page load. NOTAMs (US airports) are fetched from the FAA NOTAM Search. If a source is unreachable when this page loads, the corresponding section displays an "unavailable" message rather than a blank or stale value.

This data is re-verified on a recurring monthly cadence aligned to the FAA's NASR 28-day cycle.
