Borges had reached at least the second round of his last eight Grand Slams. He never settled on either of the two shots he lives on, the serve and the forehand, and once Tien broke him in the game that decided the first set there was no way back: 6-4 6-1 6-2 in an hour and forty minutes on Stadium 17.
