At this Stage
Somebody's breakthrough was guaranteed here — two qualifiers, both ranked outside the top 125, meeting for a place in the Wimbledon second round. It went to Kyrian Jacquet, who had yet to drop a set all tournament: three qualifying wins and now a 6-3 6-4 7-6(2) defeat of Vilius Gaubas in his maiden Grand Slam main-draw match, closed with a 7-2 tiebreak and powered by 38 winners. For Gaubas the fortnight ended where it began; for Jacquet the reward was steep — tenth seed Alexander Bublik in the round of 64, where both the run and the set streak stopped. At this stage, the Frenchman had already banked the biggest week of his career.
