In an all-Grand-Slam-champion first-round meeting on Court 1, eighth seed Daniil Medvedev dismantled 2017 finalist Marin Čilić 6-1 6-2 6-4. Medvedev overwhelmed the 37-year-old with his serve, striking 16 aces to two and breaking seven times from eight chances. Čilić, hampered by 34 unforced errors to Medvedev's 14, could not sustain rallies against the Russian's depth and won just 67 points to 91.
