C3.ai Products — the Platform, the Applications, Agentic AI, and C3 Code

C3.ai ships four product surfaces. The C3 AI Platform is the substrate — originally C3 Energy in 2009, renamed through C3 IoT and C3 AI Suite to its current name. C3 AI Applications are the pre-built vertical SaaS apps that run on the Platform. C3 Generative AI / Agentic AI is the LLM-augmented overlay layered atop both since 2023. C3 Code is the post-restructuring product pivot, in general availability since April 8, 2026, framed by CEO Stephen Ehikian as the company's move from “assisted development” to “AI designing and building Enterprise AI.” Sourced from c3.ai/products/, the FY2025 10-K, post-FY2025 8-Ks, and C3.ai's earnings transcripts on ir.c3.ai.

How the four surfaces relate

The C3 AI Platform is the substrate — a model-driven runtime for AI applications that runs on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. C3 AI Applications are pre-built vertical SaaS apps (reliability, supply-network optimization, anti-money-laundering, CRM, ESG, plus federal-specific apps) that ship on top of the Platform. C3 Generative AI / Agentic AI is the LLM-augmented overlay that layers across the Platform and the Applications. C3 Code sits alongside as an autonomous-agentic-coding surface that builds for the Platform and the Applications via natural-language input.

C3 AI Platform

What it is

The C3 AI Platform is C3.ai's foundational software product — a model-driven runtime, data-integration layer, and AI-application development environment that the rest of the company's products run on top of. Per the FY2025 10-K business section: “The C3 AI Platform is our foundational, model-driven platform that enables customers to rapidly design, develop, deploy, and operate Enterprise AI applications at scale.” The Platform is cloud-agnostic and runs on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, in addition to customer-managed and on-premises environments. C3.ai's own framing on c3.ai/products/c3-ai-platform/ calls it the platform that “abstracts the complexity of building Enterprise AI applications.”

Who uses it

Every C3.ai customer uses the Platform, whether they engage with it directly (writing C3.ai applications on top of it) or indirectly (running a C3 AI Application that ships on top of it). Direct-Platform customers tend to be enterprises building bespoke AI applications — energy companies, federal-government agencies via the federal-apps family, manufacturers, and financial-services firms. Indirect-Platform usage is the larger surface: every customer running a pre-built C3 AI Application (Reliability, Supply Network Optimization, Anti-Money Laundering, etc.) is implicitly running on the Platform underneath.

When it shipped — and the naming history

2009 (as C3 Energy). Thomas Siebel founded the company as C3 Energy in January 2009 to focus on energy-sector IoT and analytics; the platform was renamed C3 IoT in 2016 as the addressable market expanded beyond energy; renamed C3 AI Suite in June 2019 alongside the corporate rename to C3.ai, Inc.; and is currently branded the C3 AI Platform. The three renames are not just marketing — they map to deliberate repositioning across the company's seventeen-year history (energy IoT → industrial IoT → enterprise AI → the current model-driven-AI framing). The leadership page's founder section covers the corporate-name evolution in more detail.

How it relates to the others

The Platform is the substrate. C3 AI Applications are pre-built vertical SaaS apps that ship on top of it. C3 Generative AI / Agentic AI is an overlay layered across the Platform and the Applications — per the FY2025 10-K, generative-AI capabilities are integrated into both. C3 Code targets the Platform and the Applications as its build target: natural-language requirements go in, production-grade applications running on the Platform come out. The multi-cloud deployment model (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a Platform-level property that the Applications and overlays inherit.

Notable deployments

The anchor Platform-level customer is Baker Hughes, the strategic vertical-industry partner since June 2019 in oil & gas (per the FY2025 10-K's Note 12 Related Party Transactions); the partnership was renewed and restructured in April 2025, removing the exclusive-reseller arrangement. Federal customers run the Platform under the federal-apps family — including the U.S. Air Force PANDA readiness applications and a range of DoD-wide programs. Cross-link: the C3.ai Customers page carries the named-customer roster organized by industry and segment.

Product 2 · Vertical SaaS portfolio · On the Platform

C3 AI Applications

What it is

C3 AI Applications are a portfolio of pre-built, industry-specific SaaS applications that run on the C3 AI Platform. Per the FY2025 10-K: “Our C3 AI Applications are an extensible portfolio of industry-specific Enterprise AI applications that meet the business-critical needs of global enterprise customers across manufacturing, financial services, government, utilities, oil and gas, chemicals, agribusiness, defense and intelligence, and other industries.” The portfolio is large and rotates as applications ship, recombine, or are deprecated — the live catalog lives on c3.ai/products/. Below are the application categories that materially shape the company's customer roster; the catalog itself is broader and is the authoritative source.

The materially-load-bearing application categories

C3 AI Reliability

Predictive-maintenance application for capital-intensive industries — identifies equipment failures before they happen across oil & gas, manufacturing, utilities, and defense. The flagship application family and the load-bearing surface for the Baker Hughes partnership.

C3 AI Supply Network Optimization

Supply-chain optimization across manufacturing and industrial customers — demand forecasting, inventory positioning, and supplier-risk management.

C3 AI Inventory Optimization

SKU-level inventory positioning across manufacturing and retail-adjacent customers.

C3 AI Anti-Money Laundering

Financial-services application for transaction-monitoring and suspicious-activity-report generation across banking and capital-markets customers.

C3 AI CRM

Industry-vertical customer-relationship-management built atop the Platform; positioned against horizontal CRM incumbents with industry-specific data models and AI-driven workflows.

C3 AI ESG

Environmental, social, and governance reporting and sustainability-metrics tracking; serves regulated industries and large enterprises.

Federal / defense applications

Bespoke applications for federal customers — PANDA (Predictive Analytics and Decision Assistant) at the U.S. Air Force, DoD-wide readiness applications, intelligence-community deployments. Distinct contracting mechanism (direct contracts, OTAs, IDIQ vehicles) and a structurally separate revenue surface; the Customers page carries the federal-roster detail.

Additional industry applications

The catalog also includes applications for production-schedule optimization, energy management, fraud detection, smart lending, and other vertical use cases. The live list is on c3.ai/products/; this section surfaces the materially load-bearing ones, not every entry.

Who uses them

Each application maps to a different vertical. C3 AI Reliability is the most widely deployed and is the surface that the Baker Hughes joint-venture relationship was built on (per the FY2025 10-K Note 12). The federal apps serve the U.S. Air Force (PANDA), DoD, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, GSA, intelligence-community customers, and the U.S. State Department. Commercial customers in energy, utilities, manufacturing, and financial services run the industry-specific applications under standard subscription contracts (or consumption-pricing contracts — see the financials page's consumption-pricing callout).

When they shipped

The Applications portfolio has shipped iteratively since the early 2010s, with individual application launch dates surfaced in successive 10-Ks and quarterly earnings calls. The portfolio shape has shifted — applications have been added, deprecated, and recombined — making a definitive launch timeline difficult to maintain. The authoritative current catalog is c3.ai/products/; per-application launch dates appear in the 10-K's Business section and in the Investor Day presentations on ir.c3.ai.

How they relate to the others

Every Application runs on the C3 AI Platform — the Applications are not standalone products, they are vertical-specific instances of the Platform's model-driven architecture pre-configured for a particular industry use case. The Generative AI / Agentic AI overlay applies across every Application; per the FY2025 10-K, generative-AI capabilities are integrated into the Application portfolio rather than restricted to a separate product line. C3 Code can be used to extend or customize Applications for specific customer requirements.

Product 3 · Overlay · Launched 2023

C3 Generative AI · C3 Agentic AI

What it is

C3 Generative AI is the LLM-augmented overlay across the C3 AI Platform and the C3 AI Applications portfolio. C3.ai launched the product line in early 2023 in response to the post-ChatGPT generative-AI cycle, and the framing has evolved through 2024 and 2025 toward an “Agentic AI” positioning — reflecting the broader industry shift from generative-AI-as-chat to autonomous-agent workflows. Per the FY2025 10-K: “Our C3 Generative AI products enable enterprise users to rapidly locate, retrieve, and present all relevant data across the enterprise through a simple natural-language interface.” The current company-side surface for the overlay is on c3.ai/products/ under the Generative AI / Agentic AI subsections.

Who uses it

Customers across the C3.ai roster — the overlay is not restricted to a single customer segment or industry vertical. The 2023 launch announcements named several large industrial and federal customers as early Generative AI adopters; the Q1 FY2026 earnings call (the first print under the consumption-pricing transition) was the first quarter in which generative-AI revenue contribution was discussed at length. Generative AI / Agentic AI has been the single largest driver of the consumption-pricing-transition revenue dynamics described on the financials page.

When it shipped — and the Generative-to-Agentic framing evolution

2023. Per the FY2025 10-K and the contemporaneous earnings transcripts, C3 Generative AI was introduced in 2023 as part of the company's response to the post-ChatGPT generative-AI cycle. Through 2024 and 2025 the framing evolved from generative AI toward agentic AI — the company's marketing surfaces increasingly use “Agentic AI Platform” as the umbrella positioning, reflecting the broader industry-wide shift. The April 8, 2026 C3 Code launch press release on c3.ai/c3-ai-announces-c3-code/ uses the “C3 Agentic AI Platform” framing explicitly — the agentic-AI positioning is now the company's load-bearing one.

How it relates to the others

The overlay sits on top of the C3 AI Platform and the C3 AI Applications — it does not replace either. Per the FY2025 10-K, generative-AI capabilities are integrated into both the Platform and the Applications rather than gated behind a separate product. C3 Code, the April 2026 launch, is positioned as the natural extension of the agentic-AI framing — autonomous agents that don't just answer natural-language queries about enterprise data but design, configure, test, and deploy Enterprise AI applications.

Notable deployments

Customer-deployment commentary surfaces on each C3.ai quarterly earnings call on ir.c3.ai. The Generative AI / Agentic AI revenue contribution has been a recurring topic on the post-Q1 FY2026 calls (the first print under the consumption-pricing transition). Cross-link: the C3.ai Customers page carries per-customer use-case detail organized by product.

Product 4 · Agentic coding surface · GA April 8, 2026

C3 Code — the post-restructuring product pivot

C3 Code launched in general availability on April 8, 2026 — the first major product release since the February 2026 26%-workforce-reduction restructuring and the load-bearing surface of the company's post-restructuring strategy under CEO Stephen Ehikian. Per the launch press release at c3.ai/c3-ai-announces-c3-code/: “C3 Code is an Enterprise AI development platform that combines autonomous agentic coding with the C3 Agentic AI Platform. C3 Code lets users describe requirements in natural language; autonomous agents then design, configure, test, and deploy production-grade AI applications.” Ehikian's framing in the same release positioned the launch as C3.ai's pivot from “assisted development” to “AI designing and building Enterprise AI.”

What it is

An autonomous-agentic-coding platform layered atop the C3 Agentic AI Platform. Natural-language requirements go in; autonomous agents design, configure, test, and deploy production-grade AI applications on top of the C3 AI Platform. Pre-built domain assets ship for manufacturing, energy, financial services, defense, utilities, and healthcare — the same industry-vertical set that the C3 AI Applications portfolio targets. The product is C3.ai-internal: C3 Code generates applications that run on C3.ai's own Platform, rather than producing portable code that could run elsewhere.

Who uses it

Enterprise customers building bespoke Enterprise AI applications. The launch press release names manufacturing, energy, financial services, defense, utilities, and healthcare as the initial verticals with pre-built domain assets. Named customer deployments of C3 Code are not yet public — the product launched April 8, 2026 and named-customer rosters typically accumulate over the first several quarters post-GA. The C3.ai Customers page surfaces any named C3 Code customers as the roster develops.

When it shipped

April 8, 2026. The launch was disclosed via the company press release at c3.ai/c3-ai-announces-c3-code/ rather than an 8-K filing — product launches at C3.ai are typically not 8-K-disclosed. The launch is one of three post-FY2025 events that the financials page surfaces as a card on its post-FY events panel and that the leadership page stitches into the transition-arc narrative alongside the September 2025 CEO transition and the February 2026 restructuring.

How it relates to the others

C3 Code targets the C3 AI Platform and the C3 AI Applications as its build target — it produces production-grade AI applications that run on the Platform, optionally extending or customizing existing Applications. It builds on the C3 Generative AI / Agentic AI overlay's natural-language-interface affordances and pushes them toward autonomous agentic-coding workflows. The product is structurally a peer to the other three: not a replacement, not a sub-product, but a separate surface with its own customer roster, contracting story, and revenue dynamics that the company has framed as the centerpiece of its post-restructuring strategy.

Honest acknowledgement of product-state

C3 Code launched in general availability on April 8, 2026 — recent enough that customer traction, revenue contribution, and named-customer-roster impact are not yet known publicly. The FY2026 10-K (expected mid-2026) will be the first canonical filing to surface C3 Code's revenue impact; quarterly earnings calls on ir.c3.ai will surface earlier qualitative commentary. Outside coverage (Constellation Research and others) has characterized the launch as “the first installment of the post-restructuring turnaround plan” — that characterization is editorial and is not the product's company-disclosed framing.

All four at a glance

Same four product surfaces, side by side, in the order they shipped. The “Key concept” column is the one-phrase mental model for each — what to remember about it after the rest of the page falls out of working memory.

Product Launched Category Primary segment Key concept
C3 AI Platform 2009 Substrate Cross-cutting (everything runs on it) Model-driven runtime for Enterprise AI applications, multi-cloud
C3 AI Applications Iterative 2010s+ Vertical SaaS Energy, manufacturing, federal, financial services Pre-built industry-specific apps that ship on the Platform
C3 Generative AI / Agentic AI 2023 Overlay Both commercial and federal LLM-augmented layer across the Platform and Applications
C3 Code 2026-04-08 Agentic coding Enterprise customers building bespoke AI apps Natural-language requirements → production AI applications

Launch years are sourced to the FY2025 10-K Business section, contemporaneous press releases (the April 8, 2026 C3 Code launch on c3.ai/c3-ai-announces-c3-code/), and the 2023 earnings transcripts (for C3 Generative AI). The Applications row uses “Iterative 2010s+” rather than a single year because the portfolio shipped iteratively over the company's history with no single launch event.
