Result
Andreeva won 19 of her 22 points at the net and 62% behind her second serve against 32%, and still needed a tiebreak. She broke for 2-0 on Court 17, was pegged back twice, and took the last three games of a 33-minute first set. Then it turned. She broke again to open the second, Bartunkova broke straight back and kept going to 4-2, and the set ran to 6-6 — Bartunkova holding from 30-40 at 5-6 to force the breaker. Andreeva won the first set against Eva Lys in twenty minutes and the match in 63, which is the shortest completed match either of these players has been involved in this fortnight. She is 19, the fifth seed, ranked fifth, 42-14 for the season, and this year's Roland Garros champion — her first major, won in June. Her best US Open result is the third round, which she has now reached again.
