Result

Arévalo / Ostapenko 4-6 7-5 6-2 over Polmans / Hunter — the No. 2 seeds rallied from a set and an early second-set break, over one hour 56 minutes on Centre Court, to win their first mixed-doubles major together and Ostapenko's maiden mixed Slam.

At this Stage

The mixed-doubles final the draw earned — its top surviving seeds against its giant-killers — went to the seeds, the hard way. Marcelo Arévalo and Jeļena Ostapenko, the No. 2s, dropped the opening set and trailed a break early in the second before turning it around to beat Marc Polmans and Storm Hunter 4-6 7-5 6-2 on Centre Court for their maiden mixed-doubles title. Polmans and Hunter, unseeded and the story of the event — conquerors of the No. 1 seeds Vavassori and Errani — took the first set 6-4 and led 3-1, but Arévalo's serve and Ostapenko's return hauled the seeds level and then clear, a double break carrying the second set 7-5 before they ran away with the third. Ostapenko finally has her Wimbledon moment; Arévalo adds the mixed crown to his men's-doubles pedigree.

What I said beforehand

The preview, frozen before the first serve. Clearly dated, never rewritten — that's the deal that makes the pick worth anything.

A final between the mixed draw's biggest upset makers and its steadiest seeds. Polmans and Hunter own the headline result of the event — the takedown of the No. 1 seeds — and in Hunter they have a former doubles world No. 1 who returns the mixed court as well as anyone left. But Arévalo and Ostapenko pair a Grand Slam doubles champion's serve with a striker who takes the racquet out of opponents' hands, and they have barely been broken all fortnight. In a final a champions' tie-break can decide, I lean, narrowly, to the seeds: Arévalo and Ostapenko.

The case for Arévalo / Ostapenko

52% to win

The No. 2 seeds are the safer firepower bet: Arévalo is a Grand Slam doubles champion whose serve rarely gives, and Ostapenko ends points off the return like no one else in the draw. They have barely been broken all fortnight and came through an all-seeded semi-final; in a match-tie-break shoot-out, that combination of hold and strike is the percentage play.

The case for Polmans / Hunter

48% to win

Polmans and Hunter carry the tournament's defining mixed result — beating the No. 1 seeds — and backed it up against Pavić and Stollár. Hunter, a former doubles world No. 1, is the most decorated returner on the court, and in a one-set-plus format the pair that manufactures the crucial break tends to win. Giant-killers with nothing left to prove and everything to swing at.

Both cases written 2026-07-07, before the first ball — frozen into the record exactly as written, whatever the result. The percentages are mine, quoted to a decimal because false precision is funnier — and tennis has no draw to hide the rounding in.

No pick on the record for this match — the window closed without one, and the gap is permanent.
