At this Stage

The draw had been cruel here: Mirra Andreeva, fifth seed and reigning Roland Garros champion, against Barbora Krejčíková, the 2024 Wimbledon champion now unseeded and ranked outside the top 30. Both arrived cleanly — Andreeva 7-5 6-4 over Magda Linette, Krejčíková 6-1 6-4 over wild card Hannah Klugman — and the collision delivered: 4-6 7-5 6-4 to Krejčíková after 2h 46m on Centre Court, sealed on a seventh match point after six had slipped away at 5-3 in the decider. Andreeva won more points, 115 to 113, and went home. Krejčíková advances to face Nikola Bartůňková in the last 32 — a champion's pedigree suddenly loose, unseeded, in an opened section.
