At this Stage

Form travelled with Karolína Muchová from Bad Homburg, where she had lifted the grass-court title the week before. The tenth seed opened this Wimbledon by beating Anastasia Zakharova 6-3 6-2, then repeated the scoreline exactly against Zhang Shuai, holding serve throughout and saving all six break points she faced. Zhang, 37, had needed two tie-breaks to get past Bianca Andreescu in round one and never found a way into this one. Muchová advances to a last-32 meeting with Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew — and on this evidence she arrives there without having been asked a serious question.
