Result

Liudmila Samsonova took out the No. 15 seed in the day's biggest women's upset by ranking, beating Diana Shnaider 6-4 4-6 6-2 on Court 12. The stat line was one-way traffic dressed up as a three-setter: Samsonova hit 30 winners to Shnaider's 10 and won 80% of her first-serve points, converting five of seven break chances. Shnaider's fight in the second set — where her returning briefly clicked — couldn't survive Samsonova's flat hitting in the decider. Samsonova, whose first tour title came on the grass of Berlin in 2021, next faces No. 21 seed Marie Bouzková.

At this Stage

By seeding, the biggest women's upset of Day 4; by the tennis, barely an upset at all. Liudmila Samsonova — whose first tour title came on the grass of Berlin in 2021, and whose flat, first-strike game has always travelled well on the surface — out-hit 15th seed Diana Shnaider 30 winners to 10 and won 6-4 4-6 6-2. Shnaider, sharp in a 7-5 6-1 opening win over Eva Lys, found her returning briefly in the second set and little thereafter. Samsonova, a straight-sets winner over Polina Kudermetova in round one, moves on to meet 21st seed Marie Bouzková in the last 32 — one seed removed, another immediately supplied.
