Open Bloomington software jobs

Every open software job across Bloomington and the surrounding south-central Indiana area — Monroe County (Bloomington and Indiana University) plus the Owen county ring and the Crane corridor to the southwest — pulled straight from each employer’s own careers feed and laid out plainly, with no aggregator noise in between. Four labor markets overlap here: IU, the Cook Medical and Novo Nordisk device-and-biologics corridor, the Dimension Mill startup tail, and the Crane defense belt. I keep it local and primary-sourced so wherever you are in the search, the next step is a little easier.

Senior Research and Development Engineer, Systems

No AI mention Bloomington

Summary

A senior systems-engineering role on medical devices at Cook Medical's Bloomington headquarters, owning the architecture and integration of firmware, software, hardware, electronics and disposables so the finished device is functional, safe and effective. The work covers defining user requirements, design inputs and software requirements, running risk analysis across system, software and cybersecurity, and leading integration across engineering disciplines under the medical-device standards (ISO 13485, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 14971). Asks for 2-5 years on system requirements, design and testing, black-box test methods, a real-time multitasking OS, and Agile. A fit for an embedded/systems engineer who wants regulated device work over pure application software.

Lead Data Engineer (Data Engineer)

AI required Bloomington

Summary

A lead data-engineering role inside Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, owning advanced data management for the school: complex data modeling, conversion, de-duplication and migration, plus custom reconciliation systems that validate, match/merge and batch-upload data. The work runs to writing and tuning highly complex stored procedures and queries, and includes mentoring other staff and contributing to data-engineering practice across the university. A fit for a senior data engineer who wants deep SQL and data-quality ownership in a large higher-ed environment rather than a product-team role.

Ontology & Semantic Architect

AI mentioned Bloomington Palantir

Summary

An enterprise ontology and semantic-architecture lead at Cook Medical, owning the semantic models that define how the company's systems interpret its data - the concepts, relationships and rules behind consistency, interoperability, analytics and AI. The role builds and governs the enterprise ontology across Microsoft Fabric (including Fabric IQ) and Palantir, working with business and technical teams so the models match real business definitions and support cross-system integration. Requires Eastern or Central time-zone availability, and Cook states it will not sponsor an employment visa for this role. A fit for a data architect drawn to semantics and governance rather than pipeline construction.

About this page

Every posting is classified into one of three AI buckets: AI required when the description names specific AI tools as required skills (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) or names LLM/agent/RAG/embeddings as core to the day-to-day; AI mentioned when the description mentions AI tooling in passing without it being the core skill; No AI mention when the description contains none of the relevant keywords. Each row shows the matched keyword evidence inline and surfaces named AI developer-productivity tools as expanded-row chips, so you can judge the signal for yourself.

The geographic filter is opinionated, and it is deliberately a little wider than the official Bloomington MSA. Monroe County postings — Bloomington (Indiana University, Cook Medical, the Novo Nordisk biologics campus) and the surrounding towns such as Ellettsville, Stinesville, Unionville, and Smithville — are always included and collapse to “Bloomington.” So are postings across the Owen county ring (Spencer, where Boston Scientific runs its plant, plus Gosport, Quincy, and Freedom). Beyond the MSA, I also include the NSWC Crane corridor to the southwest — Crane and Loogootee in Martin County, Bedford and Mitchell in Lawrence County, and Bloomfield, Worthington, and Linton in Greene County — because Crane’s microelectronics and electronic-warfare work is the region’s largest cybersecurity and embedded-systems employer and a Bloomington-based candidate genuinely commutes to it. The neighboring Nashville (Brown County) tourism town, the Columbus (Bartholomew County) and Martinsville (Morgan County) areas are separate labor markets — Martinsville routes to Indianapolis — and are intentionally out of scope. Remote postings are included only when the employer also has a Bloomington-area office — otherwise anywhere-in-the-US remote noise would swamp the page. Use the Location filter to narrow to a specific city.

This page is an independent aggregation. Mungomash is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the employers listed. Application-status tracking and email alerts are out of scope. Per-posting salary ranges are surfaced inline when the employer discloses one — structured ATS fields first, JD-body prose as a fallback; rows with no disclosed range render no chip. For broader salary context, see H-1B Salaries (visa-petition disclosures) and Dev Wages (national survey).
