Czechia and South Africa shared a 1-1 draw in Atlanta that leaves Group A finely poised. Michal Sadílek volleyed the Czechs ahead inside six minutes — the earliest goal of the tournament so far — after combining with Alexandr Sojka, but South Africa levelled seven minutes from time when Teboho Mokoena converted a penalty awarded for handball. Bafana Bafana edged possession and had the better of the closing stages, yet neither side could find a winner.

Two rounds in, Group A is one certainty and a three-way argument. Mexico have six points from six without conceding, and the arithmetic is already final — no combination of results can push them out of the top two, so the hosts are through. Korea Republic hold second on three despite defeat to Mexico, while the Atlanta stalemate kept Czechia and South Africa alive without doing either much good: a point apiece, split by goal difference, Czechia's minus-one edging Bafana's minus-two. What the draw really did was preserve everyone's mathematics — a loser here would have been all but done. Instead, second place goes to the final matchday as a three-team problem, and Mexico get to watch it from in front.

Both sides lost their openers and the loser here is almost certainly out, but Czechia were the better team in patches against Korea before fading, and South Africa arrive shorn of two players sent off against Mexico — Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane are both suspended. Patrik Schick gives Miroslav Koubek's side a focal point South Africa will struggle to handle, and the suspensions thin an already-young Bafana spine. Expect a tight, nervy game decided by a single Czech goal, around 2-1.
