Stadiums & Host Cities
The 2026 World Cup is played in sixteen stadiums across three countries — eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. FIFA strips sponsor names for the tournament, so the building on the broadcast may not be the building in your head — MetLife Stadium is hosting the final as the “New York New Jersey Stadium.” I keep both names on every row, because “wait, where is that actually?” deserves a one-line answer.

The venues
Each row expands into that stadium’s full match slate, opener through final — rows are alphabetical by city, so scan for the one near you. Filled dots are played matches. Every match links out: to its Preview page the day before kickoff, to its permanent Match page from full time on, and to its Matchday on the tracker until then.

Why the names are different on TV
FIFA does not allow stadium sponsor names during its tournaments, so every venue plays the World Cup under a scrubbed “clean” name — usually the host city plus the word Stadium. Mercedes-Benz Stadium becomes Atlanta Stadium; AT&T Stadium becomes Dallas Stadium; the Estadio Azteca, a building with two World Cup finals already on its résumé, appears in official material as Mexico City Stadium. Tickets, broadcasts, and FIFA’s own schedule use the clean names; locals, naturally, keep using the real ones. Both are in the table above.
Capacities are FIFA’s confirmed tournament capacities (announced June 10, 2026) — lower than the buildings’ everyday numbers, because the World Cup overlay (a wider pitch, broadcast and hospitality builds) eats seats. If a stadium’s own site disagrees with this table, that’s why; neither number is wrong.
About this page
Venue facts — names, cities, capacities — are cross-checked against FIFA’s published venue material, the stadiums’ own sites, and Wikipedia; they drift slowly. Match assignments are never typed on this page: every slate derives from the same verified match data as the tracker, so when the knockout bracket fills in, each stadium’s slate fills in with it. No stadium photography — a dense table beats a hero shot of an empty bowl.
