My pick: Côte d'Ivoire win · locked 2026-06-24 10:01 UTCPrediction
Côte d'Ivoire to win. The Ivorians sit second in Group E on three points and need only avoid defeat to reach the round of 32, and they carry far more quality than World Cup debutants Curaçao, who were beaten 7-1 by Germany on matchday one and sit on a single point after a goalless draw with Ecuador. Even shorn of the injured Wilfried Singo, a back line built around Odilon Kossounou and a midfield of Franck Kessié and Ibrahim Sangaré should control the game in Philadelphia. Curaçao will defend deep and hope to nick something, but the gap in pedigree should tell. 2-0 Côte d'Ivoire.
The case for Curaçao
16% to winCuraçao have already made history simply by reaching their first World Cup, and Dick Advocaat's side showed against Ecuador that they can defend in numbers and frustrate. The Caribbean islanders carry Eredivisie and EFL experience through the Bacuna brothers, Tahith Chong and Jurgen Locadia, and if they keep it tight and take a rare chance, they can produce the upset that would carry them into the knockouts on their debut.
The case for Côte d'Ivoire
58% to winCôte d'Ivoire arrived as one of Africa's strongest sides and a win or draw here sends them through. The reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions have the talent to overwhelm a debutant defence: Amad Diallo's directness, Franck Kessié's drive from midfield and Sébastien Haller's movement up top. Even with Singo a doubt, their depth and tournament pedigree should be enough to finish the job.
Both cases written 2026-06-24, before kickoff — they freeze into the record exactly as written, however the match goes. The percentages are mine, quoted to a decimal because false precision is funnier — the unclaimed 26% belongs to the draw.
The briefing
Storylines

- Wilfried Singo is a doubt for Côte d'Ivoire after a hamstring injury against Germany, with Guéla Doué set to deputise.
- Played in the open air at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia for the early kickoff.
