Result

Zizou Bergs kept his surprise run rolling, beating Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria 7-6(6) 4-6 6-2 6-3 to reach the third round. The Belgian — who knocked out No. 27 seed Ugo Humbert in five sets in round one — leaned on a dominant first-serve day: 16 aces and 81% of first-serve points won. Faria, who came through qualifying and then a four-set first-round win over Sho Shimabukuro, hung on through two tight sets before Bergs' pressure told in the third and fourth.

At this Stage

Upsets only count double if you back them up, and Zizou Bergs backed his up. The Belgian had spent round one removing No. 27 seed Ugo Humbert in five sets (6-2 7-5 4-6 3-6 6-3), which turned this meeting with Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria — a four-set winner over Sho Shimabukuro — into pure opportunity: neither man had ever been past the second round at the All England Club. Bergs claimed it, 7-6(6) 4-6 6-2 6-3, and with it the first Wimbledon third round of his life. Waiting in the last 32 is Arthur Fery, the British wild card — confirmation that this corner of the draw has gone entirely off-script.
